Casting & Codes Of Dress

Casting and codes of dress are another very important aspect of planning, this is because the cast must be suited to play the character in the video otherwise people may become confused. Codes of dress is also very important as this is one of the biggest aspects of mise-en-scene and it sets the mood of the video which can make a music video very successfully if done well. We will be using four different characters throughout our music video, they are shown below with the codes of dress that they will be wearing in the shoots. If you hover over the pictures you will see a description and explanation as to why we chose to use these characters.

Sam Bashford

We chose to have Sam as the main actor as Joe knows him very well so therefore he would feel very comfortable performing for us in comparison to if we got someone who we didn't know very well to act for us. He has also had previous acting experience and therefore would be suitable for the role and would be able to provide us with good acting throughout the piece.

Sam will be needing to show his emotional side throughout this video due to the fact that he is playing the role of a son of an alcoholic mother who ends up passing away. Therefore we will be needing him to stay focused when we include many close up shots of him and also not laugh which I believe with his acting experience he will be able to do easily.

Hopefully Sam will be able to do all of this for us in order to make our music video as effective as possible.

Sam will be wearing casual clothes, for example, jeans and a t shirt however for the outside shoot he will need a coat.

Isaac Bashford

Isaac is Sam's little brother. This was very convenient for us as we needed the younger character (the role Isaac will be playing) to look similar to the older character, obviously them being brothers helped with this. He is very young and therefore this was quite a risky move from us casting him however he was the only suitable person that myself and Joe could think of for this role.

Despite his young age he is very sensible and therefore I think that he will be mature during the production of the shoot and will be good. Having Isaac in our piece also meant that Sam had more of an idea of when he would be free so therefore when they were both free we were able to film making it easier for all of us. Overall I think that casting Isaac will be a good choice from myself and Joe.

Isaac will be needing to wear pajamas, he only needs to wear pajamas as he is meant to be sleeping and he is only a child so therefore he will not be wearing anything different.

Bridget Inglis

Bridget is Joe's mum. We decided to use Joe's mum because we were finding it very difficult trying to cast someone for this role. Joe also had his doubts over using his mum as he knew what she was like at acting and he said that she has never been keen on acting. The reasons that we decided to cast Joe's mum were due to the fact that naturally she looks like a mother, around the right age we needed for our piece, mother like mannerisms due to having two children of her own. Secondly Joe knew that she would always be around and so therefore filming would not be an issue for her and Joe also knew that she would always say yes even if she didn't want to do it.

However, Joe's main concern with casting his mum was that his mum usually laughs very easily at anything. So naturally when we are filming the confrontation scene where she needs to slap Sam we think that it could take longer than usual. And so it did! However, we did manage to get all the shots we wanted to get and they look very effective so overall it was a good choice to cast Bridget.

Bridget will be wearing very casual clothes as she is only at home, however she will be needing two separate outfits to show the change in time, as she is with Isaac and then 10 years later with Sam.

Joseph Inglis

We decided to use Joe in acting as the artist. Joe will have  to lip sync all of the song in various locations so that we can gather all of the footage and then we can decide on what looks best when it comes to post production. Joe is confident and therefore in front of the camera I do not think he will act any differently and so he is likely to perform very well in this role.

Joe will be wearing casual clothes which will fit the role that he is playing very well, there is a photo of him to the right.
