Ancillaries

Here are the two ancillary products that I have made, the first one is the poster which you can see on the left, and the second one is the digipak. I took all of the photos on the digipak and the photo which I have used as the background on the poster. When creating the ancillary products I made sure that I kept the genre of the music video in my mind so that I made the most successful ancillary products that I possibly could.

This is my poster, as you can see the font style is the same throughout which adds an aspect of continuity and suggests that the poster is only about one thing. I have made the X Ambassadors and Unsteady Out Now the biggest as I feel as though these are the most important things for the audience to know. I have also included the album name VHS underneath the artist name, this is so that people are aware of what album the song is in. At the bottom of the poster I have included the logos from Spotify, YouTube and iTunes, this allows the audience to become more aware of what software's/apps/streaming sites that the song will be available on. In the bottom right of the poster I have included a link to the artists website, this is so that the audience are fully aware of where they can look to find out more information about the song/artist. The main focus of the poster is of Joe, he is sitting down against a wall in a car park, this was an effective shot in my opinion and this is why I have decided to use it for my poster background. I used a gradient tool on Photoshop in order to create the black darkness around the white circle in the middle which shows him. This gradient tool funnels the audience's vision in my opinion to look at Joe which is what my aim of the poster was to be.

This is my digipak for the album to the left, in the bottom left of the image you can see Joe (the artist) as the main focus, this is due to the fact that this image will be the front cover of my digipak and therefore he must stand out so people know exactly what the digipak is about. I have also included 'X Ambassadors' and 'VHS' in large text so that this also attracts the audience's eye and makes them want to pick it up if it is on a store shelf. I included the parental advisory image due to the fact that the songs contain strong language and this allows parents to be aware of what the song contains.

The middle white strip along the bottom of the image is the spine of the digipak, I made this white so that it would stand out, I also made the 'X Ambassadors' text a dark red so that it stands out on the white background and the 'VHS' text black so that it also stands out.

The image of the graveyard will be the back cover of my digipak, in this photo you can see the song list of what songs are within the album that this digipak is for. I have designed the back cover so that it looks like the song names are engraved into the grave which in my opinion looks very effective and could attract many people so that they end up buying my digipak.

Finally, the middle of my digipak is one shot, of a teddy bear (the one we used in the video) sitting on a pole. I decided to use the teddy bear so that the audience are able to relate the digipak back to the music video. I also felt as if this shot was very effective as the image is solely focused on the teddy bear showing that this was an important aspect throughout the music video. The teddy bear will be on the right side of the digipak so therefore I will put the CD disk on the left side so that the audience can still see the main focus of the image.

Overall, I think that both of my ancillary products are effective, this is because they both include all of the aspects in which they should and the effect of using a gradient draws attention to Joe (the artist) who is the main focus of the poster which will make people see the poster and therefore find out about the new song release. I also feel as if my digipak is effective as it allows the audience to relate back to the music video itself, for example, the graveyard, relates back to the ending of the video, and the teddy bear relates to the young child who has grown up with that teddy bear all throughout his life.
