Class Screening Feedback
Once we had finished our production we were given the opportunity to show our piece to an audience, this audience being the class. We received both positive feedback and also some criticism which allowed us to see where we went wrong in the making of our video and where we could potentially improve our music video in order to make it as successful as it could be.

"I thought that the narrative was very easy to follow along with the lyrics as the lyrics can easily relate to the visuals."
I am happy that this has worked well as this was one of the main aspects that myself and Joe wanted to make sure that we got right.
This approach clearly works well and if I were to do a task similar to this again I would use this method in order to attract the audience to my product.
"Editing was good, I especially liked the shot of all three of the main character fading in whilst sitting on the chair. The editing also had an upbeat tempo to counteract the sad mood of the narrative which I thought was effective."
This was very good to hear as we spent a lot of time editing that shot together to make it look as professional as possible. Also, we are glad that the editing was seen to boost the mood as we thought that the narrative may be too sad for viewers.
I have learnt from this that the effect that we used was very effective and also an upbeat editing speed counteracts the mood of the narrative.
"Cinematography and the variety of camera angles were good but there could have been more aspects of performance."
I agree, I thought that this was a very fair comment as I believed that this was the weakest part of our music video however we did not have enough time to conduct a reshoot.
I have learnt that camera angles and cinematography is particularly important in a music video. Also, if we had enough time to reshoot I would have done in order to make the performance shots less shaky and look more professional.
"You can see Joe and Joe in the window reflection in one shot which makes the piece look unprofessional."
Initially when editing our piece we did not notice this, so I was very happy to receive this feedback. We were not able to reshoot however we went back and edited it so that it is a lot harder to see us in the window. This was the best option we had.
When filming the shots always double check afterwards to ensure that there is no one in a reflection of a window/door etc.
"I thought that the acting was very good in the video and I could easily emotionally attach myself with the characters."
I agree with this comment as when casting the actors we thought about who would be the best for the roles. We were unsure about using Isaac as we thought he may be too young but he was a very good actor.
This shows that casting is a very important aspect of creating a successful music video as good actors allow the audience to relate to them.
"I thought that the mise-en-scene was too basic and informal as they were only wearing casual clothes, other than the child in pyjamas which I thought was very effective."
I agree but also disagree, I agree with the pyjamas being effective but I do not agree with the fact that the mise-en-scene for other characters was informal as they were in locations which solely require casual clothes as they were in casual locations; for example, their house, a graveyard, a park.
From this comment I have learnt that mise-en-scene is just as important as any other aspect and that people have different opinions on what clothes certain characters should wear.
"I did not like the fact that some performance aspects looked very unprofessional as it looked as if the artist was miming and not actually dinging due to the lack of facial expressions."
I agree with this comment and it seems to be a problem which many people in our class picked up on. However, we were not able to re-shoot or change this due to the lack of time we had available to us.
From this I have learnt that the performance part of a music video is as important as the narrative as it allows the audience to understand who the artist is. Also, we would need to take more time on filming our performance based shots as they were quite shaky and not in focus which made them look unprofessional.
"I thought that the slow motion was very good as I could empathise with the character at this moment in the music video."
I was surprised by this as I did not think that the slow motion could be this powerful but looking back at the slow motion in our music video I can understand how powerful it does look.
From this I have realised how important editing really is within a product. This is because it allows the director to emphasise certain parts of the narrative to the audience.
