Logos of Production Companies

This logo is almost identical to the ident in which Universal Studios use (the ident for the film makers). The only difference is that it is in black and white, and the logo is 2D unlike the ident which is 3D. The font of the text is very simple and easy to read which means that the audience can clearly understand what the logo is about. The globe in the background also allows the audience to easily relate the music group and the film production as the same company.

Def Jam Recordings is an American record label focused mainly on hip hop and urban music and it is owned by Universal Music Group. The logo was designed by Rick Rubin using Estee Lauder design templates, the big letters 'D' and 'J' have been in the logo ever since. Rubin chose this font as it is not decorative in anyway and is easy to understand which is what he was all about. The logo looks professional through the use of the big letters 'D' and 'J' and is very simple however effective. The use of two big letters could be something which myself and Joe adopt when creating our logo for our music production company.

Out of all of the logos that I will be looking at I feel as if Sony's is the one that looks the most modern and professional. I think that this is because of the three contrasting colours, red, black and the white background which makes the red and the black stand out even more than usual. The font is very simple just like the other two logos in which I have already looked at so therefore when creating our logo I will make sure to use a font that can easily be seen and is clear to the audience. I think that the red strip makes the logo more eye catchy as the bright colour stands out so therefore the human eye becomes attracted to it and makes people intrigued, this could also be a technique that myself and Joe use in our logo.

Columbia Records is an American major record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment through Sony Entertainment, both are subsidiaries of Sony Corporation of America, the United States division of Sony Corporation. It was founded in 1887 from an earlier business named the American Graphophone Company, the successor to the Volta Graphophone Company. This logo is more detailed than all of the others however it is still simple, the image looks as if it is like an eye which is on a stand. This logo is similar to what the American Graphophone Comapny's logo used to look like before it was taken over.

Atlantic Records is an American major record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegün and Herb Abramson. Over its first 20 years as a company, Atlantic Records earned a reputation as one of the most important American recording labels, focusing mainly on jazz, R&B and soulrecordings by African-American musicians including Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Otis Redding and many others. In my opinion I think that this logo is the most complex however it looks effective. We can clearly see what the font says and there is a shape which attracts the audiences eye towards the logo. The logo was first used in 1966-2005 however it was revived in 2015, although it was slightly changed they kept the original template.

I believe that this logo is one of the simplest logos in which I have looked at. I would say that it isn't very eye-catching which could be seen as a problem for the company however it does contain the bright blue on the white background which is a very good contrast of two colours and makes the blue seem brighter than it is. Although this means that it can be printed onto album cover's and other things like magazines or a newspaper as it is not very vibrant so it would not look out of place in a news article. I think that Warner Music have tried to use someone very simple but have tried to make it as effective as possible through the use of the simple font choice which the audience can easily read and the shape in the middle.

Overall I think that music production companies logos should be as simple as possible however effective as they must contain some sort of attraction so that people would want to see it and make them be intrigued about the company. Joe and I will try to make our production logo attractive and we will do this by using two contrasting colours, e.g. black on white, or white on red, in order to make our logo stand out from the others. We will also use a simple font and a simple style of logo as this is what will make our logo look professional.
