Inspiring Shots
Here are some shots from existing music videos which I believe could help us in creating our music video as I think that they were very effective in making of the existing products. The first sequence of shots were from Calvin Harris' and Disciples How Deep Is Your Love.
These are a sequence of shots which follow each other throughout the Calvin Harris music video. The first shot on the left above in my opinion is very effective due to the fact that we can see multiple shadows of the performers arms and it creates a confused feel to the music video. I believe that this would be a very good aspect to include in our music video if we wanted to show an actor feeling distressed or uncomfortable in a certain situation. The second shot (the middle shot above) is also inspiring, this is because with the white background and the bright colours which the performer is outlined with it makes the audience focus on her making her seem more important than any other actors in the video. The final shot from this video has a black background however the actor has ben colour corrected so that she has a red/orange tint, this makes her stand out just like the shot of her in pink. Before this screenshot was taken we also see a similar ghosting effect where we can see multiple shadows of her hair which gives an unusual distorted feel and could make the audience feel uneasy. Overall, I think that myself and Joe will try to include effects like this throughout our music video as they are very effective and make the music video look a lot better if correctly used.
The next shot that inspired me is a shot of multiple artists playing together however we can only see the shadow outlines of their bodies and instruments. This shot is from Daft Punk's Get Lucky.
I found this shot very inspiring as it is far from the usual shots of artists playing on a stage. Although we can see that there are four performers playing their instruments on the stage, the use of the sunset background and the warm orange colours allows the black silhouettes to stand out a lot more than they usually would. I feel as if this would be a very good type of shot to try and include in our piece as it would look very effective if done correctly, although it would be very difficult to do as we do not have a musician in our group so we would need to ask someone who plays an instrument to act if we were to go for this shot. Another issue that we may face with creating this shot is getting the right background as in this shot it looks as if the four artists are on top of a stage which is very high up (on top of a hill overlooking a city) and this could be a hard location to find where we live. We would also need to use lighting kits in order to create the silhouettes of the performers that would be in our music video however this would be possible as we can borrown equipment from the school.
My final inspiring shot is from Logic's 1-800-273-8255 as shown below. This shot has inspired me as I feel as if it is a very effective way of showing the artists seeing by using everyday life objects, for example an electronic board and a computer as shown in this music video.
As you can see above, the shots of the artists are very effective, this is down to the fact that there is a pure white background and the artist is looking into the camera as the camera moves forward slowly just like the tempo of the song towards the electronic board. From these shots we are also aware of who is singing in the video, for example, in the shot above on the left we can clearly see that it is Alessia Cara singing where as in the screenshot in the middle we can tell that it is Logic himself rapping, in the screenshot on the right we can see Khalid rapping, these shots aid the audience in understanding what the artists look like. The audience may also relate to the screenshots above as it's as if they are watching a music video through a music video as they can see the three artists on another screen singing which could potentially attract them to watching more of Logic's music videos.
