Ancillary Planning

Ancillaries are essential for the revealing of a new product. I will be creating two ancillaries, one being a poster and the other being a digipak. Below I have sketched two different ideas for a poster for my music video and also I have sketched one digipak idea and I have explained the reasoning behind which one I feel is best suited for the music video. Also, after the sketches you will see the digipak measurements that I will be using in order to help me create a digipak which is the correct size.

This is one of my plans for my poster, I have decided to create this poster landscape as I feel as if this will provide the poster with more space to fit in all of the words and I feel as if it would make the poster stand out more. The font would be a dark red/burgundy colour so that the audience can easily read the font on the background as the lighting in the shot I am hoping to get is likely to be quite bright along the back as there are sidelights on the wall. I will also have to place the words strategically as in some places they will be blocking the main focus which would be Joe sitting down looking away from the camera. Both of my posters that I have planned are with the same photo, you can see the other one below this.

This is the second plan for my poster, this poster plan is portrait and after having drawn this one I think that I prefer this one to the other one. As you can see the artist name and album name is at the top of the poster which is one of the first things that the audience will want to see on a poster so they know what the poster is about. I have sketched in some areas of the poster other than where Joe will be sat; this is because I will use a gradient tool in order to make everything else darker on Photoshop so that Joe is the main focus of the poster allowing the audience to know that he is important in the release of this music video. Below Joe I will have the 'Unsteady Out Now' phrase, this is so that the audience can easily notice that this is the song that is being released. In the bottom corners I will include the music streaming sites and music apps that this song will be available on. In the bottom right of the poster I will also have the website that the audience can find out more information about the song on, this is so that people know exactly where to look for more information. Overall I think that this will be the poster that I end up creating as I think that this is the one that would be most successful and is the most effective.

Above is the plan for my digipak. I have only planned one idea for my digipak as I feel as if this idea is very strong and have already thought about the exact shots that I want to take and where I will be taking these shots to make them look as effective as possible. In the bottom right of my sketch above you will see a drawing of Joe looking out into the distance, I want to have Joe on the front cover as this will allow the audience to know what the main focus of the album is. Above Joe there will be some dead space of the sky, therefore I will include the album name in a big font along with the artists name, this also reinforces the idea that the audience must know what the digipak is about so that they will want to buy it. In the bottom left of the front cover I will include the parental advisory sticker, this is because the song contains strong language and in the music video there will be scenes which young children are not very suited to watch. In between the bottom two photos I have included a break, this is what would be the spine of the digipak when it is folded together, I would like to have 'X Ambassadors' in a different colour font to 'VHS' on the spine so that the audience know they are seperate things.

Moving on to the second image, along the top of the image above is what I hope to have as my main double page spread for the inside of the digipak. The image will hopefully be of a teddy bear resting on a pole with a background of greenery and a fence so that the teddy bear stands out more. I will also make sure that I have the camera focusing on the teddy bear rather than on the other objects in the photo. I decided to use a double page spread as the inside of my digipak as I feel as if this would look more effective than two separate images. I will be creating a slot for the CD to go on the opposite side of the double page spread to where the teddy bear is so that people can still see the main focus of the image. I decided to go with the idea of having the teddy bear inside of the digipak as I feel as if it allows the audience to understand and relate both the digipak and the music video as they both contain the teddy bear so they will know that they are part of the same production.

The final photo for the back of my digipak will be of a grave, I have decided to go with having a grave as the back photo of my digipak as we will see that the mum dies in the music video and therefore a grave is suiting to the topic. I also have came up with an effective way of showing the song list of what songs are in the album; this is by listing the songs on the grave as if they have been engraved onto the stone. I think that this will look very good if done effectively and will make my digipak look as professional as possible. I will also include a bar code in the bottom left of my digipak back cover as all products that are going to be sold must have a bar code on them.

Overall I think that this digipak will be very effective if all of my shots come off as expected and hopefully I will come out with a very successful digipak in order to support my music video and poster when finished.

This is the digipak template that I will be using when creating my digipak, I will be swapping around where it says 'CD tray' and 'inside front' however other than that it is the same. I will be using the same measurements for when I  print out my digipak.
